Start of establishing free economic zone “Karakul”

The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan has adopted Decree №357, which gives the start to the establishment of a new free economic zone (FEZ) “Karakul” in Bukhara region.

The decision is aimed to support President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s policy of using Uzbekistan’s natural resources to produce value-added goods.

FEZ “Karakul”, being an area of accelerated development of Karakul district, will turn into a new industrial and economic center of southern Uzbekistan, create over 2,300 new jobs and contribute to the social and industrial development of the whole Bukhara region.

Industrial, business, transport-logistics and social infrastructure will be formed here. In addition, it is planned to create specialized faculties in Bukhara State University and Bukhara Institute of Engineering and Technology in order to train relevant specialists.

Several large enterprises have already expressed interest in placing facilities on the territory of FEZ. Among them are the largest producers of carpets SAG and UrGaz, pipe manufacturer Vero Group and textile manufacturer Mergantex.
